Still haven’t figured out how to celebrate Mother’s Day this year? Don’t forget it’s this Sunday, 18th October in Argentina. A day for – hopefully – a little relaxation, pampering, and special love from the family. Take a look at our six ideas for a Buenos Aires Mother’s Day, from luxe to child-friendly.
1. While the Little Ones Play
It’s not very relaxing trying to celebrate Mother’s Day while also trying to get your kids to sit still at the table and stop complaining about being bored. Quinta Estacion, the child-friendly café in Palermo, has a special lunch or a merienda (afternoon tea) for moms and dads and activities in the playroom with the helpers, where kids make a special gift for mom. Reserve a place by phone 4833 6575 or via the Facebook page.

2. With a Super-Luxury Lunch
Where else to go for a special Mother’s Day but the luxury InterContinental Buenos Aires? Starting from 1pm in the Terrazas del Virrey restaurant, chef Bertrand Eginard prepares a buffet feast of seafood, salads, smoked salmon, roast meats, and pasta. And of course there is the dessert buffet, too, if you’ve got any room left. Mother’s Day lunch includes live music and activities for the children. It’s not cheap – $895 per person including wine, food, drinks, and coffee. Children under 12 pay half, so they’d better come with healthy appetites! Reserve on 4340 7105/7201/7100 or at bueha.reservas@ihg.com
3. Or a Perfect Brunch
Brunch and Mother’s Day go hand in hand. The Hilton Buenos Aires in Puerto Madero offers a Sunday Brunch with the full selection of seafood, cheeses, and pastries among other delights. What’s more, there’s a soft play area for children with activities, entertainment, and games. The cost is $600 per person with kids aged 4 to 10 paying half.
4. With Traditional Fish and Chips
If you’re craving some traditional British fish and chips, head to Chipper with your family this Sunday. Lunch is served from 12:30 to 4:30pm and dinner from 7:30 to midnight at Humboldt 1893 in Palermo. Special Mother’s Day menu at $275 per person from the set menu that includes choices such as calamari, seafood lasagna, apple crumble with vanilla ice-cream (and fish and chips, from the regular menu.) Reservations at 4777 6760/8628 or reservas@chipperfishandchips.com
5. Eating the Perfect Cake
Decata is the place to be for mouthwatering cakes and pastries that will make your Mother’s Day. Branches of the cozy, friendly deli are at Palermo Hollywood – Honduras 6100, Cañitas – Soldado de la Independencia 670 and Palermo Soho – Gorriti 4865.

6. Enjoying a Spa Day
Take a look at the Alvear Palace Hotel’s offering for mothers this Sunday – with a hydro circuit of sauna, steam baths and swimming pool, 45-minute massage, and lunch. Cost is $980 per person or $1,900 for two. Reservations at 4808 2145 or spa@alvear.com.ar . Or if you don’t want a spa experience, try the Alvear Palace afternoon tea – delicious pastries and cakes, fine teas, and a glass of sparkling wine ($390 per person.)
